How it All Began
Hi! I am Andrew Freeman. My family moved to Mt. Lebanon from Penn Hills in 1996 and I started off as a 3rd grader in the district. I played in the orchestra, ran track, played varsity volleyball, and was a State Champion in Forensics. Fun fact: Josh Gad, the voice of Olaf, was one of my speech and debate coaches through the years. My love for math ultimately lead me to the University of Pittsburgh with a full tuition scholarship to the Swanson School of Engineering.
Here I majored in industrial engineering and participated in our local chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). It is through my involvement in the local chapter where I met the love of my life, Jamie, a computer engineering major. We were friends for a time, but she gave in to “my comedic personality and charisma.” Our engagement in NSBE really developed our love for volunteering and shepherding young individuals throughout their education journey.
Fast forward a few years later, we found ourselves settling down in Pittsburgh and looking at school districts for our oldest, Andrew Jr. At that time, we lived in the city and explored all many districts. Ultimately, this led us back to Mt. Lebanon in 2015. We choose Mt. Lebanon due the great education and the proximity to family.
Currently, Andrew Jr. is a fifth grader at Hoover Elementary. It is here that Jamie and I started our involvement with the school district. We started off as volunteers for PTA events and Jamie was elected as PTA president for Hoover for the 2018-2020 school years. It was during this time that Jamie and I were able to offer our voices and opinions regarding diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Family time is our rejuvenation time. We enjoy watching soccer matches and Formula1 racing. Andrew Jr. is full of energy and can be found around town participating in different sports. He has a love for animals, anime, and video games. In 2018, we were blessed with another little boy, Jamison. He’s more shy, but enjoys playing at the park and fun times with our puppy Bloodhound, Marley.
We look forward to meeting more community members.
